Our company, our story

Like every business, we've followed a unique and perilous path from where it all began to where we find ourselves now.

For over a decade we’ve been focused on creating unparalleled experiences for our customers. Along the way, we picked up on some things that just can’t be taught; we’ve had lots of laughs and shed a few tears, too.

We’ve learnt the joy and pain of growing a business from the ground up, and discovered the true meaning of passion and persistence. Most importantly, we’ve learnt how to articulate the values that are at the core of our company philosophy, values that resonate in everything we do.

2019/2020

Koan launched their one stop male site, Man Made Store, along with SACHAJUAN to run alongside Bath & Unwind, and upgraded their promotional engine to offer their online customers a bespoke retention scheme.

2017/2018

Koan made a transformational investment in their tech platform to support enterprise level retail. This enabled a step change in mobile shopping and enabled our D2C (Direct to Consumer) offering to scale.

2015 / 2016

Having completed and maintained CMS builds for the last 12 years, clients were now searching us out to build Sitecore and Umbraco websites. We launched the cult hair brand Percy & Reed’s website, offering them an end to end E-commerce solution. This was the 12th E-commerce site to be launched in twelve years.

2014

It was a busy year! We entered the tech marketplace and started working on Seg, an email marketing and customer insight platform for E-commerce companies.

We also developed Owletter, a way of capturing and storing competitors email marketing to easily and efficiently gain customer insight. We then redefined Bath & Unwind, both visually and technically, new branding was rolled out and a new site, with expert UX was launched.

2013

Having built a successful, bespoke E-commerce business, we continued to build better experiences, both for our new and existing customers and we realised that we truly understood the challenges that online businesses face, and we wanted to help.

2012

We solidly hit business adolescence, and with growth like that we needed and acquired a new office, and some new team members. Business was doing great, because our customers were fabulous.

2011

As our eCommerce site continued to grow, we outgrew our warehouse, so we moved. Just before Christmas. Ouch. Lesson learned.

2008 / 2010

Even more flat out working and it was time to employ the first full-time employees, which meant it was time to move to a new office, where everyone could, you know, have their own desks.

2005 / 2007

Every evening and weekend was spent tirelessly building the business. Dave eventually left his full full-time job as the past couple of years of hard work pays off. Continued to invest in the tools, capability and product ranges needed to meet the expectations of the growing customer base.

The hair and beauty industry started to take notice, new partnerships were formed, seeing Koan launch and run multiple websites on behalf of high profile brands such as Fudge and American Crew.

2003 / 2004

Dave the Founder decided to shake up the norm - “Let’s start-up a B2C eCommerce business”.....combining 1 tech wiz + 1 operational guru, they collaborated to challenge the then recovering world of the Internet. They began writing their own E-commerce platform, as you do, and Bath & Unwind was born.

Meet the Founder

Dave Telford

When starting a career at Rolls-Royce, working in jet engine design, Dave realised working in a large corporation might not be his calling, and found a desire to start a business himself, and so, along with previous founder Lee,  set about launching their first brand. A year later Bath & Unwind was born… the rest is history.
